Bordeaux mastiff (French Dogue de Bordeaux, English. French Mastiff, Bordeaux Bulldog), breed of dogs mastiff similar groups. Other names - french mastiff, bordeaux bulldog. In France, the breed has been known for several centuries and is known as a formidable guard. Its origin is from the high and powerful ancient Molosser dogs that participated in the battles in ancient Greece, and Rome fought with gladiators. On French territory were brought to the Roman legions.



In the Middle Ages, these dogs were herders of cattle, used to protect castles and farms, to hunt wild boar, bear and wolf. Involved in dogfights and bull-baiting. During the period of British rule in Bordeaux interbred with the English Mastiff, and possibly with English bulldogs, which formed the modern mastiff bordeaux. After the French Revolution have survived in small numbers only in the region of Bordeaux. Official recognition of the name of the breed was in 1861.

Bordeaux mastiff - very strong, harmoniously built dog. Height at withers 59-69 cm, weight 38-46 kg, males up to 50 kg. Housing is well balanced, well muscled.
