Akita (Akita Inu, Japanese Akita)

Akita (Akita Inu, Japanese Akita), breed of dogs from the group of Spitz-like. Breed brought to Japan in the 17th century for hunting wild boar, deer and even black bear. These dogs were bred over 300 years ago on the island of Honshu, in Akita prefecture (hence the name), but the exact origin of the breed is unknown. Later, in order to preserve the breed Akita Inu use for hunting and dog fighting was prohibited.


Since the late 20th century, representatives of this breed successfully participate in exhibitions in the U.S. and the UK. Akita Inu are allocated in the stack of Japanese Spitz great growth.

Their height at withers 58-70 cm, weight 35-50 kg. Dog solid build, good proportions. Housing a wide, muscular with a deep chest. Bulk head, broad forehead with a pronounced shift towards the muzzle. The muzzle is pointed, the bridge of the nose is short. The nose is big, black or a light-colored dogs - pink. Triangular eyes, dark brown. The ears are set wide apart, erect. The feet are large with closed toes and hard pads. The tail length of the hock is held over the back in the form of a ring, but never form a closed loop. Wool tight with a thick, soft undercoat. Externally, the Akita Inu like chow-chow, but with short hair.
Color: black pepper and salt - pure or blackened, whitish or given away in ryzhinu are allowed white markings, small size.

Akita reserved, proud dog independent-minded. Dog can be a great keeper, easily trained, although it is capable of a violent attack. Floats beautifully through the webbing between the fingers. Does not need long walks.
