Afghan (Afghan Hound), breed of hunting dogs. This is a very ancient breed, there are several thousands of years. Bred by crossing in Afghanistan Afghan hound native to the Persian greyhound - Saluki. In the late 19th century, it was brought to the UK, where v1907 approved standard of the breed, there v1926 created the first club of Afghan hounds. In Russia, Afghan hounds appeared in the 70s, and in 1980 was approved by the standard adopted by FCI. At home, they were used to guard livestock, hunting, and bred for a beautiful exterior.



Exotic appearance, majestic posture, graceful movements, full of strength and dignity, and independence of - that's what Afgan. This dog is quite high (height at the withers for males 65-75 cm, females 60-65 cm, weight 23-28 kg). Type of constitution strong and dry. The head is elongated, chiseled lines. The ears are long, hanging close to the head, covered with very long, silky hair. Eyes almost triangular in shape, the eastern section, dark, sometimes with a golden hue. The nose is black, with light-colored dogs can be dark brown. Not too short tail end loop.

Luxurious, silky, straight hair frames a slender figure Afgan. Paws hidden thick coat forming a "slipper". Color varied: one-, two-and three-color. The dog may be with a black mask, half mask, glasses, without a mask.

Afgan - kind and responsive dog endowed with the wisdom of his ancestors who lived in the deserts. Prone to independence, self-controlled Afghan friendly with children. Requires a firm but gentle handling, increased physical activity, long walks and open space. Wool require regular maintenance.
