Ainu |
Ainu (Ainu Dog, Hokkaido Dog, Ainu-Ken), breed of hunting dogs, bred in Japan. Their origin is connected with the history of the Ainu, the indigenous people of the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido. This breed of dog was instrumental in the formation of other Japanese breeds, handing them their courage, fierceness, loyalty and sensitivity.
Ainu - strong dog of medium height (46-53 cm, weight 20-30 kg), with a square head, straight nose, erect ears. Triangular shaped eyes, looking a bit glum. Superficially resembles the Ainu some Nordic Spitz and very similar to the Akita Inu. The tail is of medium length, set on high, carried curled over the back. Coat of moderate length, sticking with undercoat. Color gray, brown, red, white, pepper and salt, or mackerel.
