Azawakh (
Tuareg Sloughi), breed of
hunting dogs, known since ancient times. Breed bred Tuareg tribes in southern Sahara, in what is now Mali for hunting and guard service. Participated in the formation of the African dog breeds (tezemu) and Asian greyhounds (slyugi, Saluki). In
Europe, the
Azawakh were introduced after the
Second World War. The standard was adopted in
France in 1981. In
Russia, this breed appeared in 1986.
Azawakh - elegant dog with a deep chest to the tall, slender legs with small paws, like
Arabian horses. Height at withers 58-74 cm, weight 17-25 kg. Fur is thin and short, sandy-colored with different shades of white markings. The head is narrow, pear-shaped with a minimum of five speakers horsehair bags with whiskers.

Accustomed to respectful treatment Azawakh - controlled, although sometimes wayward dog, is very popular with fans of greyhounds in many European countries. Dogs require regular exercise and simple grooming.
